Breaking Prophecy News; Battle of Armageddon, Part 2 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #627)

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Associated Press, a North Korean missile exploded during launch on Sunday, a high-profile failure that comes as a powerful U.S. aircraft supercarrier approaches the Korean Peninsula in a show of force. It wasn’t immediately clear what kind of missile was test-fired, but the failure will sting in Pyong-yang because it comes a day after one of the biggest North Korean propaganda events of the year. Numerous reports suggest the U.S. carried out “digital interference” to sabotage the launch.

Second, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to CNN, the US Air Force’s newest stealth fighters arrived in the UK over the weekend as part of the Pentagon’s effort to reassure European allies in the face of Russian aggression on the continent. The jets landed on Saturday for what the Air Force said was several weeks of training with other US aircraft and crews and those from North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies. General Tod D. Wolters, commander of US Air Forces in Europe, said, “As we and our joint F-35 partners bring this aircraft into our inventories, it’s important that we train together to integrate into a seamless team capable of defending the sovereignty of allied nations.” The Air Force said the F-35s were deploying to support the European Reassurance Initiative, a multibillion dollar program started under President Obama in 2014 to show support for US allies after Russia annexed the Crimea from Ukraine.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Associated Press, in a trip full of Cold War symbolism, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence traveled to the tense zone dividing North and South Korea and warned Pyongyang that after years of testing the U.S. and South Korea with its nuclear ambitions, “the era of strategic patience is over.” The unannounced visit at the start of his 10-day trip to Asia was a U.S. show of force that allowed the vice president to gaze at North Korean soldiers from afar and stare directly across a border marked by razor wire. As the vice president was briefed near the military demarcation line, two North Korean soldiers watched from a short distance away, one taking multiple photographs of the American visitor. Pence told reporters near the Demilitarized Zone that President Trump was hopeful China would use its “extraordinary levers” to pressure the North to abandon its weapons program, a day after the North’s failed missile test launch. But Pence expressed impatience with the unwillingness of the regime to move toward ridding itself of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

— The Coming Day of Wrath

The Old Testament prophets called it the “day of the Lord” or the “day of vengeance of our God.” They described it as a day of darkness and of fire, burning as hot as a furnace. Zephaniah wrote, “A day of wrath is that day, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom… because they have sinned against the Lord.” This day of divine judgment against unbelievers will consume the whole world.

The Great Tribulation is the period of divine judgment that immediately precedes the coming of Christ in power and great glory. The prophet Ezekiel called it “the day of the Lord… a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations [Gentiles].” He even named many of those nations: Egypt, Ethiopia, Put, Lud, Arabia, and Libya.

In recent years, it has been customary for pretribulationists to see two great battles coming in the future: Magog and her Arab allies against Israel, and the Antichrist and his kingdom against Israel.

Older pretribulationists, such as Rene Pache, believe there is only one great end-time battle, noting that many of the same nations are named as falling on “the day of the Lord” (Armageddon) in Ezekiel 30:1-8. No matter how a person interprets these end-times conflicts, the Bible clearly teaches that Israel, not the Church, is the target of these attacks and that in the final battle Christ will return with His Church saints, His bride, to deliver Israel and complete the unity of God’s people.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and me to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. It is a collection of what he called “prophetical tracts” that focus on the believer’s duty in light of the signs which point to the second coming of Jesus Christ.

This section is titled, “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 19) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence. J.C. Ryle writes:

You are not to neglect any social duty or relation of life, because of the uncertainty of the Lord’s return. You are to fill the station to which God has called you, in a godly and Christian way; and you are to be ready to go from the place of business to meet Christ in the air, if the Lord shall think fit. You are to be like a man who never knows what a day might bring forth and, therefore, to put off nothing until a “convenient season.” You are to rise and go forth in the morning, ready, if need be, to meet Christ at noon. You are to lie down in bed at night, ready, if need be, to be awakened by the midnight cry, “Behold the Bridegroom comes!” You are to keep your spiritual accounts in a state of constant preparation, like one who never knows how soon they may be called for. You are to measure all your ways by the measure of Christ’s appearing, and to do nothing in which you would not like Jesus to find you engaged. This is to “occupy” until Jesus comes.

Think how condemning are these words to thousands of professing Christians! What an utter absence of preparation appears in their daily walk and conversation! How thoroughly unfit they are to meet Christ! They know nothing of occupying the gifts of God as loans for which they must give account. They show not the slightest desire to glorify Him with “body and spirit which are His.” They give no sign of readiness for the second advent. Well says old Gurnall, “It may be written on the grave of every unconverted man: Here lies one who never did for God an hour’s work!” Who can wonder in a world like this, if a minister often cries to his congregation, “You must be born again!” “Except you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven!”

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…” Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.

Breaking Prophecy News; Battle of Armageddon, Part 1 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #626)

PROPHECY HEADLINES: Israel closes border with Egypt after terror warning; New microchip implanting technology could lead to ‘mark of the beast’; Scientists predict unprecedented outbreak of lyme disease this year

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “Battle of Armageddon (Part 1)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

Armageddon! The mere mention of it causes us to tremble. Armageddon is the ultimate biblical symbol for the great war at the end of the age. Its very name conjures up visions of global destruction, worldwide devastation, and indescribable human suffering. It is the war to end all wars! The people and planet of earth will suffer untold misery, and millions will die.

Revelation 16:14-16 tells us that the ultimate conflict of human history will take place at Armageddon in the Valley of Jezreel. It is the place where the kings of the earth will assemble for battle on the “great day of God the Almighty.” The name Armageddon (Har-Magedon) is taken from the plain of Megiddo near Mount Carmel. The ancient ruins of the Old Testament city of Megiddo still stand as gaunt testimony to the strategic significance of this area.

OCCUPY UNTIL I COME: “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 18) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence. J.C. Ryle writes:

Your bodily health and strength, your mental gifts and capacities, your money and your earthly possessions, your rank and position in life, your example and influence with others, your liberty to read the Bible and hear the Gospel, your plentiful supply of means of grace — all these are your “pounds.” All these are to be used and employed with a continual reference to the glory of Christ. All these are His gifts. “Of Him come riches and honor.” “His is the silver, and His the gold.” “His is your body, and His is your spirit.” “He appoints your habitation: He gives you life and breath.” You are not your own: you are bought with a price. Surely it is no great matter, if He bids you honor Him and serve Him with all that you have.

Breaking Prophecy News; The Seven Last Plagues, Part 5 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #625)

PROPHECY HEADLINES: Trump promises to deal with North Korea | Chinese Christians hospitalized after fighting government trying to install cameras in churches | Japan considers pre-emptive strike against North Korea

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “The Seven Last Plagues (Part 5)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

The narration moves on again as John says, “After these things I looked.” Each time John uses this phrase, he indicates a sequential progression to the next event. As John watched, the temple of heaven was opened just as it was in Revelation 11:19. There the temple was opened to reveal the Ark of the Covenant. Here it is opened to allow the seven angels to exit from the presence of God. Thomas notes, “Both passages tell of the source of the last plagues, with this one being a further development of the former.”

The reference to the “tabernacle of testimony” refers to the place where the tablets of the Law were kept. These angels leave God’s presence because the Law has been violated. And they leave with the “seven plagues.” They already have the authority to dispense judgment; they need only to be given the means to do it.

OCCUPY UNTIL I COME: “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 16) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence. J.C. Ryle writes:

Do not forget this charge to “occupy!” Beware of an idle, talking, gossiping, sentimental, do-nothing religion. Think not because your doings cannot justify you, or put away one single sin — that therefore it matters not whether you do anything at all. Away with such a delusion! Cast it behind you as an invention of the devil. Think of the house built upon the sand, and its miserable end. As ever you would “make your calling and election sure,” be a doing Christian.

ISIS issues rare threat against Israel; China readies islands for fighter jets (Second Coming Watch Update #854)

1. ISIS shot and killed two Egyptian policemen in a new execution video released online last week. In the same video, ISIS delivered a rare direct threat to Israel, saying the Jewish state will soon ‘pay a high price.’

2. Damning new satellite images reveal that China has vastly expanded its military scope by constructing military jet hangars on a set of contested islands. Their confirmed presence in the South China Sea quashes China’s repeated claims it was never planning to militarise the region.

3. Islamic State terrorists say they have gotten their hands on a variety of US weapons and sensitive radio equipment in the Nangarhar region of Afghanistan following recent battlefield victories.

4. Iran’s foreign minister accused the United States of not honoring last year’s nuclear deal, invoking a recent reference by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

5. At least 14 people have been killed in Sanaa as Saudi Arabia resumed its bombardment of the Yemeni capital on Sunday. The civilians who were working overnight shifts were killed following the disintegration of peace talks.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 16:14-21.

Our second coming quote for today is from Lee Roberson. He said, “I cannot think of any person who would not be benefited by an understanding of the second coming. This is for the young as well as for the aged; for the businessman as well as for the housewife; for the wealthy as well as for the poor; for the sick as well as for the healthy. For the man who is a failure — this doctrine should spur him on. If a man is failing in his Christian activities — this truth should spur him on to do still more for the Savior.”

PROPHECY HEADLINES: Obama: U.S. can expect ISIS to continue to be a threat | N. Korean missile lands in Japanese waters | Islamist coalition breaks Syrian siege of Aleppo

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “The Winepress of the Wrath of God (Part 8)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

— The Grapes of Wrath, Continued…

The “wine press of the wrath of God” symbolizes the severity of this judgment. Its location is “without [outside] the city,” indicating that the last great conflict will be near, but not in, Jerusalem. In Revelation 16:16, John will locate the final battle at Armageddon, some fifty miles northwest of Jerusalem.

The Old Testament prophets also predicted the final battle in the Valley of Jehoshaphat, which is adjacent to Jerusalem and the Kidron Valley. The combined biblical picture of the final conflict portrays a massive invasion of Israel by the forces of the Antichrist. The invading army will overrun the nation from the north and the south all the way to the outskirts of Jerusalem.

OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 11) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence in Luke 19:11-13. J.C. Ryle writes:

When, how, where, in what manner, all these things shall be — we cannot say particularly! Enough for us to know that they shall be. The Lord Jesus has undertaken to do them — and they shall be performed: the Lord Jesus waits for the time appointed by the Father — and then they shall all come to pass. As surely as He was born of a pure virgin, and lived on earth thirty three years as a servant — so surely He shall come with clouds in glory, and reign on the earth as a king.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 23:5-8.

Our second coming quote for today is from Harry Ironside. He said, “We cannot enter upon the full enjoyment of the heavenly side of that kingdom in these bodies and under present conditions. We must be transformed. Our bodies of humiliation must be made like unto the body of His glory. And when will it take place? ‘In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump.’ Just as quickly as the flash of light appears in the eye, this change will take place when our Lord returns.”

PROPHECY HEADLINES: Israel-U.S. close in on major military aid deal | China, Russia to hold joint military exercises | Turkish citizens, police surround NATO nuclear stockpile

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “The Winepress of the Wrath of God (Part 7)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

— The Grapes of Wrath

A white cloud catches John’s eye next. It is the messianic cloud associated with the return of Christ. The reference to “a son of man” with a golden crown assures us this is the Christ. Here, Jesus is pictured as the Judge of the unbelieving world. He is the “Grim Reaper” at the final judgment.

The imagery of the harvest and the vintage is taken from Joel 3:13, which pictures the future judgment as a harvest. Again, these verses serve as an overview (proleptic summary) of what follows in great detail in chapters 15-19. Christ begins His descent to earth on the white cloud, sickle in hand. He is pictured as the Lord of the harvest, emphasizing that all judgment is under His sovereign dispensation.

OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 10) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence in Luke 19:11-13. J.C. Ryle writes:

Just as the Lord Jesus, like the nobleman, “went to receive a kingdom,” so, like the nobleman, the Lord Jesus intends one day “to return.”

The words of the angels in Acts 1 shall have a complete fulfillment: “This same Jesus who was taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen Him go into Heaven.” As His going away was a real literal going away — so His return shall be a real literal return. As He came personally the first time with a body — so He shall come personally the second time with a body. As He came visibly to this earth and visibly went away — so when He comes the second time He shall visibly return. And then, and not until then, the complete kingdom of Christ shall begin. He left His servants as “a nobleman,” He returns to His servants as “a King.”
