Ousting of ISIS celebrated, but terror group not likely to vanish (Second Coming Watch #873)

1. U.S.-backed Syrian forces celebrated in the devastated streets of Raqqa on Tuesday after gaining control of the northern city that once was the heart of the Islamic State’s self-styled caliphate, dealing a major defeat to the extremist group that has seen its territory shrink ever smaller since summer.

2. North Korea warned that a nuclear war “may break out any moment” as the U.S. and South Korea began one of the largest joint naval drills off both the east and west coasts of the peninsula.

3. Instability is set to follow the all-but-certain collapse of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. While the militants have now lost their self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa and are battling to hang on to relatively small pockets of territory, few expect ISIS to completely go away, or for the bloodshed in the two countries and the region to end quickly.

4. China is proving that it is serious about its newest restrictions on religion. This week, a Chinese house church pastor, her daughter, and her young grandson were arrested, weeks after being accused of overstepping the country’s newly tightened religious restrictions.

5. U.S. President Donald Trump struck a blow against the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement last week in defiance of other world powers, choosing not to certify that Tehran is complying with the deal in a major reversal of U.S. policy.

ISIS issues rare threat against Israel; China readies islands for fighter jets (Second Coming Watch Update #854)

1. ISIS shot and killed two Egyptian policemen in a new execution video released online last week. In the same video, ISIS delivered a rare direct threat to Israel, saying the Jewish state will soon ‘pay a high price.’

2. Damning new satellite images reveal that China has vastly expanded its military scope by constructing military jet hangars on a set of contested islands. Their confirmed presence in the South China Sea quashes China’s repeated claims it was never planning to militarise the region.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 16:14-21.

Our second coming quote for today is from Lee Roberson. He said, “I cannot think of any person who would not be benefited by an understanding of the second coming. This is for the young as well as for the aged; for the businessman as well as for the housewife; for the wealthy as well as for the poor; for the sick as well as for the healthy. For the man who is a failure — this doctrine should spur him on. If a man is failing in his Christian activities — this truth should spur him on to do still more for the Savior.”

Breaking Prophecy News; The Winepress of the Wrath of God, Part 6 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #618)

PROPHECY HEADLINES: End times group predicts end of world on July 29th; N. Korea practices blowing up South Korean airports; Iran arrests 40 members of terrorist group

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “The Winepress of the Wrath of God (Part 6)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

The messages of the three angels are followed by a comment about the “perseverance of the saints” and a voice from heaven commanding John to write. It is difficult to tell who speaks in Rev. 14:12, but it appears to be a spontaneous and unsolicited remark by John himself, although it could be part of the third angel’s message. The comment involves a threefold observation regarding:

1. The perseverance of the saints
2. Those who keep the commandments of God
3. Those who have their faith in Jesus

OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 9) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence in Luke 19:11-13. J.C. Ryle writes:

The Lord Jesus during the present dispensation is like David between the time of His anointing and Saul’s death. He has the promise of the kingdom — but He has not yet received the crown and throne.

He is followed by a few, and those often neither great nor wise — but they are a faithful people. He is persecuted by His enemies, and ofttimes driven into the wilderness — and yet His party is never quite destroyed. But He has none of the visible signs of the kingdom at present — no earthly glory, majesty, greatness, obedience. The vast majority of mankind see no beauty in Him — they will not have this man to reign over them. His people are not honored for their Master’s sake: they walk the earth like princes in disguise. His kingdom is not yet come — His will is not yet done on earth excepting by a little flock. It is not the day of “His power.” The Lord Jesus is biding His time.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 12:14-17.

Our second coming quote for today is from Sam Morris. He said, “Jesus tells us to keep our eyes on His coming and not get too busy building our little homes, accumulating an old-age pension, laying up money in the bank for a rainy day. He wants us to obey Him, look for Him, walk with Him, and let not our hearts become saturated with the things of this world.”

Breaking Prophecy News; The Winepress of the Wrath of God, Part 4 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #616)

PROPHECY HEADLINES: Obama to keep over 8,400 troops in Afghanistan; Germany remains wary of Iran’s nuclear, missile technology attempts; South Korea test-fires submarine-launched missile

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “The Winepress of the Wrath of God (Part 4)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

Three angels fly across the sky, one after another, making dramatic and climactic announcements. These are followed by a fourth announcement from heaven itself. Each of these is a proleptic remark. Each serves as a summary statement (preview) of what is to follow.

The second angel says, “Fallen, fallen, is Babylon the great”.

The view that over-literalizes “Babylon” in the Revelation passages misses the obvious symbolism that is intended there. Even Robert Thomas admits, “The writer is very clear to point out when he intends a figurative meaning.” That is exactly what John the revelator does in 17:5-9! He plainly tells us that the “Babylon” of the Apocalypse is a symbolic name for Rome. He calls it “mystery, Babylon”. It is drunk with the blood of the “witnesses of Jesus”. Its seven heads are “seven mountains” on which the city sits—an obvious reference to Rome. Finally, he calls it “the great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth”. How much more clearly can he state it?

OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 7) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence in Luke 19:11-13. J.C. Ryle writes:

It is high time for Christians to interpret unfulfilled prophecy by the light of prophecies already fulfilled. The curses on the Jews were brought to pass literally — so also will be the blessings. The scattering was literal — so also will be the gathering. The pulling down of Zion was literal — so also will be the building up. The rejection of Israel was literal — so also will be the restoration.

Breaking Prophecy News; The Winepress of the Wrath of God, Part 3 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #615)

PROPHECY HEADLINES: Over 200 people killed in ISIS bombing in Baghdad; Iran says thousands of missiles ready to strike Israel from Lebanon; China to hold war games in South China Sea

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “The Winepress of the Wrath of God (Part 3)” from Dr.

A second angel follows the first one, presumably flying through heaven as well. He announces in advance the fall of Babylon, which will be described in detail in chapters 17-18. It is described as “great” six times in the Apocalypse. This is the title Nebuchadnezzar, in his pride and arrogance, gave to the literal Old Testament Babylon.

OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 6) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence in Luke 19:11-13. J.C. Ryle writes:

I commend these things to your serious attention. I entreat you to throw aside all prejudice, and view the subject I am dwelling upon with calm and dispassionate thought. I beseech you to take up anew the prophetic Scriptures, and pray that you may not err in interpreting their meaning. Read them in the light of those two great pole-stars — the first and second advents of Jesus Christ. Bind up with the first advent — the rejection of the Jews, the calling of the Gentiles, the preaching of the Gospel as a witness to the world, and the gathering out of the election of grace. Bind up with the second advent — the restoration of the Jews, the pouring out of judgments on mere professing Christians, the conversion of the world, and the establishment of Christ’s kingdom upon earth. Do this, and you will see a meaning and fullness in prophecy which perhaps you never yet discovered.
