He said, “You will bear me witness, my friends, that it is exceedingly seldom I ever intrude into the mysteries of the future with regard either to the second advent, the millennial reign, or the first and second resurrection. As often as we come about it in our expositions, we do not turn aside from the point, but if guilty at all on this point, it is rather in being too silent than saying too much.”

Our second coming quote for today is from Charles Spurgeon: He said, “Some think that this descent of the Lord will be postmillennial — that is, after the thousand years of his reign. I cannot think so. I conceive that the advent will be premillennial that he will come first, and then will come the millennium as the result of his personal reign upon earth.”

Breaking Prophecy News; The Coming Kingdom of Christ, Part 3 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #454)

PROPHECY HEADLINES: U.S. officials warn that Russia may invade Ukraine | Iran says it supplied Hamas with missile technology | 5.3 magnitude quake shakes South Africa | Troops deployed in Sierra Leone and Liberia amid Ebola panic | Israel assesses possible re-occupation of Gaza

The Bible says in Matthew 24:21-22: “Then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: “The Coming Kingdom of Christ, Part 3” from Dr. Tim LaHaye

The kingdom our Lord will set up when He comes will be made up of three groups of people: (i) Jews who survive the Tribulation and accept Christ as their Messiah (and who still have their natural bodies); (2) Gentile believers who were good to the Jews (also alive in their natural bodies); and (3) the resurrected saints of all ages (who will have their resurrection bodies).

Except for Revelation 20, most of the New Testament passages on the kingdom have to do with the spiritual phase of the kingdom, which is often mentioned interchangeably with the church. Examine, for example, Matthew 16:16-19, where our Lord told Peter He would “build My church” on the rock of Peter’s testimony that Christ was “the Son of the living God.” He then promised to give Peter “the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (“the kingdom of God” and “the kingdom of heaven” are often used interchangeably). “The kingdom of God” in the New Testament usually refers to the true church, that body of believers who enter the church by faith in Christ and then spend the rest of their lives sharing that faith so others can also become members of the church. The literal physical kingdom is yet future and is best described in the Old Testament and Revelation 20. It will be set up when Christ returns in power, because He alone has the power to set it up.

The Bible says in Isaiah 65:25: “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.”

Our Second Coming quote for today is from C.S. Lewis. He said, “The doctrine of the Second Coming teaches us that we do not and cannot know when the world drama will end. The curtain may be rung down at any moment. This seems to some people intolerably frustrating. We do not know the play. The Author knows. The audience, if there is an audience (if angels and archangels and all the company of heaven fill the pit and the stalls) may have an inkling. When it is over, we may be told. We are led to expect that the Author will have something to say to each of us on the part that each of us has played. The playing it well is what matters infinitely.”

What to Do While We Are Waiting for the Rapture of the Church

TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-4

Last week, we looked at three things we ought to remember about the rapture from the book of Thessalonians. These things are an encouragement to us as we look forward to the day when Jesus Christ will return to gather his church. Paul wrote the epistle to the Thessalonians in order to respond to some concerns the believers in Thessalonica had about the rapture. In this letter, Paul also encourages the believers in other areas, warns them against allowing sin to enter the church, and helps them to understand how they should live in light of the soon return of Jesus Christ. We can also gain encouragement and instruction from Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians on how we ought to live as we await the rapture.

1. The Christian lifestyle is described as a “work of faith.” Paul says that he remembers “without ceasing” the Thessalonians “work of faith”. Some people don’t like to see the words “work” and “faith” put together. But Paul uses them both here. He is not saying that we are saved by faith and works. He is simply acknowledging that our faith ought to produce works.

2. The Christian lifestyle is described as a “labor of love.” Paul encourages the Thessalonians to continue in their labor of love for the ministry of Jesus Christ. Just as our faith should produce works, our love for Christ should cause us to labor for Him.

3. The Christian lifestyle is described as a “patience of hope.” The word patience carries with it the idea of endurance. Hope is a glad expectancy of things to come. Patience for the believer is not simply showing up every Sunday morning, warming a seat, and then going about our lives waiting for the Lord to return. For followers of Christ, patience is not a passive act. It is a visible action. According to Thayer’s Greek Lexicon, it is defined as “the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by even the greatest trials and sufferings.”
