First, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas has said that terrorism won’t be eradicated until the Palestinian issue is settled, expressing hope that recent meetings with US President Donald Trump’s team would lead to “peace” in the region. Speaking at a press conference in Ramallah, he said, “The world is completely convinced that the issue of terrorism cannot be handled without solving the Palestinian question.” Palestinians and their supporters often link the Israeli Palestinian conflict as a catalyst for terror groups who sow hatred and destruction in the Middle East and the world. Israeli officials reject the linkage, pointing out that extremist terror preceded the creation of Israel.

Second, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said that the United States and China will work together to get nuclear-armed North Korea take “a different course”, softening previous criticism of Beijing after talks with his Chinese counterpart. China has been irritated at being repeatedly told by Washington to rein in North Korea’s surging nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, one of a series of hurdles in ties between the world’s two largest economies. Last week, Tillerson issued the Trump administration’s starkest warning yet to North Korea, saying that a military response would be “on the table” if the North took action to threaten South Korean and U.S. forces. After his meeting in China, he said the two countries had agreed to work together to persuade North Korea “make a course correction and move away from the development of their nuclear weapons.”

Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to The National Interest, Russia is building up Tartus in Syria as a naval base that can handle Russia’s largest nuclear-powered ships. Israel says the Tartus base is affecting its naval operations. U.S. and NATO operations could be next. Under a forty-nine-year agreement inked late last year by Russia and Syria, “the maximum number of Russian warships allowed at the Russian naval facility at one time is 11, including nuclear-powered warships.” The specification means that Russia wants to be able to base in Syria large surface ships as well as nuclear submarines. Russia will also be responsible for sea and air security at Tartus. Yet since the Syrian rebels don’t have a navy or air force—but the Americans and the Israelis do—this indicates that Moscow is eyeing Tartus through the lens of a possible conflict with outside powers.

— The Last Exodus

One cannot miss the obvious symbolism drawn from the Exodus story in Revelation 15:1-8. Mounce calls it “exodus typology,” and Beasley-Murray calls it the “last exodus.” The final judgments on the Antichrist will be similar to, but much worse than those that fell on Pharaoh in Exodus 7-10. The parallels to the Exodus motif are seen in the “song of Moses,” the revelation of God’s glory in the “smoke” of Sinai, and the erection of the “tabernacle of testimony.”

These similarities point to a similar purpose of both judgment and deliverance. In the Exodus, the children of Israel are delivered into the Promised Land. In Revelation 15, the redeemed are delivered into heaven where they sing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb in anticipation of their final victory over the beast.

Suddenly there appears a host of people on the “sea of glass.” These are evidently already in heaven having “come off victorious” over the beast. These heavenly martyrs are rejoicing in the blessedness and bliss of heaven. No persecution or execution by the beast can touch them now. They are pictured carrying “harps of God.” Walter Scott points out that these are the only musical instruments mentioned in Revelation. The trumpets are used only to sound the call to judgment. All other music in the Apocalypse involves singing.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and me to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. It is a collection of what he called “prophetical tracts” that focus on the believer’s duty in light of the signs which point to the second coming of Jesus Christ.

This section is titled, “Occupy Until I Come!” (Part 14) based on the parable of the nobleman who went away and left talents for his servants to use in his absence. J.C. Ryle writes:

Know these things clearly, and then you will work diligently to do good to souls. The time is short. “The night is far spent: the day is at hand.” The signs of the times call loudly for watchfulness, and speak with no uncertain voice. The Jews are cared for as they never have been for 2,000 years; the Gospel is being preached as a witness in almost every corner of the world. Surely if we would pluck a few more brands from the burning before it is too late, we must work hard and lose no time. We must preach — we must warn — we must exhort — we must give money to religious societies — we must spend and be spent far more than we have ever done yet.

Know these things clearly, and then you will be often looking for the coming of the day of God. You will regard the second advent as a glorious and comforting truth, around which your best hopes will all be clustered. You will not merely think of Christ crucified — but you will think also of Christ coming again. You will long for the days of refreshing and the manifestation of the sons of God. You will find peace in looking back to the cross — and you will find joyful hope in looking forward to the kingdom.

Once more, I repeat, know clearly Christ’s present position. He is like one who is “gone into a far country to receive a kingdom, and then to return.”

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

……..
CLOSING PRAYER
…….

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…” Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
