PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “Can It Get Any Worse? (Part 7)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”
— The Little Book (Continued)
For every prophet, including John, there was a bittersweet message. It was sweet to the believer because it offered hope. But it was bitter to the unbeliever because it pronounced judgment. In this whole experience we see the humanity of the prophets. Theirs is a bittersweet ministry. They are not just purveyors of doom and gloom. They are real men whose hearts ache over those who reject so great a salvation.
The amazing feature in this passage is John’s commission to “prophesy again.” Mounce writes, “There is a divine sense of compulsion to the charge given to John. He must prophesy again… John’s mission is to lay bare the forces of the supernatural world, which are at work behind the activities of men and nations. His prophecy is the culmination of all previous prophecies in that it leads on to the final destruction of evil and the inauguration of the eternal state.”
OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Watch” (Part 23) based on the parable of the foolish and wise virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. J.C. Ryle writes:
Look at the rural parishes of such a land as ours, and think of them. See how the minds of the vast majority of their inhabitants are buried in farms and businesses, in cattle and corn, in rent and wages, in digging and sowing, in buying and selling, in planting and building. See how many there are who evidently care for nothing, and feel nothing, excepting the things of this world; who care nothing whether their minister preaches law or gospel, Christ or Antichrist.
