PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “Demons Unleashed (Part 5)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”
— The fifth trumpet precedes demonic invasion.
The plagues of locusts described in the Apocalypse represents a demonic invasion of planet earth. The creatures are depicted as having been imprisoned in the Abyss. They are released by divine permission to torment unbelievers — those who do not have the “seal of God.” Whether these demonic creatures inhabit human bodies is not fully clear. The reference to the “appearance of locusts” seems to indicate some kind of weaponry.
The “locusts” are personalized as a military-like force led by one called Abaddon (in Hebrew, “destroyer”). To make sure his readers understand, John adds the Greek equivalent — Apollyon. Both names carry the same designation: “one who destroys.” He is symbolically depicted as the leader of the fallen angels in the bottomless pit.
OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Watch” (Part 14) based on the parable of the foolish and wise virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. J.C. Ryle writes:
I have long felt that it is one of the greatest shortcomings of the Church of Christ, that we ministers do not preach enough about this advent of Christ, and that private believers do not think enough about it. A few of us here and there receive the doctrine, and profess to love it; but the number of such people is comparatively very small. And, after all, we none of us live on it, feed on it, act on it, work from it, take comfort in it — as much as God intended us to do. In short, the Bridegroom tarries — and we all slumber and sleep!
