PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “The World at War (Part 7)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

The third trumpet precedes polluted water.

The devastation of the seawaters is followed by the pollution of the fresh waters. The “rivers” and “fountains” (springs) of water are polluted by a falling star called “Wormwood.” Leon Morris notes that “wormwood” was a bitter substance, but was not poisonous. It is most likely that John merely uses this term to describe the bitter pollution of nuclear radioactive fallout.

It is obvious in the passages that describe the trumpet and bowl judgments that John struggles, even though inspired, to find first-century words to describe these future events — the likes of which he has never seen. Terms like “mountain of fire” and “falling star” certainly come close to a description of nuclear fireballs.

OCCUPY TILL I COME: We are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. This section is titled, “Watch” (Part 7) based on the parable of the foolish and wise virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. J.C. Ryle writes:

Until the Lord Jesus Christ comes, there always will be some who have grace, and some who have not grace — in the visible Church. Now which are you? How is it with your own soul?

Some have nothing but the name of Christian — others have the reality. Some have only the outward profession of religion — others have the possession also. Some are content if they belong to the Church — others are never content, unless they are also united by faith to Christ. Some are satisfied if they have only the baptism of water — others are never satisfied unless they also feel within the baptism of the Spirit, and the sprinkling of the blood of atonement. Some stop short in the form of Christianity — others never rest until they have also the substance.
