The Bible says in Luke 21:34: “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”
PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “Who’s That Knocking at My Door?” (Part 8) from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future”. // LAODICEA: THE PUTRID CHURCH (PART 4)
The appeal to the church at Laodicea ends as do all seven letters: “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” In each case, the individual admonition to each particular church is applied to all the churches (plural). Therefore, we must realize that there are universal truths in each church’s message that apply to all churches of all time.
J. Ramsey Michaels also points out that the messages to the seven churches cannot be isolated from the rest of the Apocalypse as a whole for three reasons:
1. Christ’s self-description in each letter follows the parallels to His self-revelation in chapter 1.
2. The promises given to those who “overcome” parallel the general promises given to the Church in chapters 19-22.
3. The general parallels between the seven letters and the prophecies of chapters 4-18 indicate a close relationship.
