The Bible says in John 14:3: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: Our topic for today is titled “Who’s That Knocking at My Door?” (Part 5) from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future”. // LAODICEA: THE PUTRID CHURCH (PART 1)
Laodicea is one of the most well known of the seven churches. It has often been identified with everything that is wrong in the church. The Puritans believed it typified the “lukewarm” state of the Church of England. Scofield saw it as the liberal, apostate church of the twentieth century. Some have viewed it as dead orthodoxy, while others are convinced it represents rampant liberalism.
Caution should be exercised before we can come to any such conclusions. Remember, these were seven literal, local churches that actually existed in the first century. There is no indication in the text itself that they had any prophetic significance at all. At best we may draw parallels as to the kind of churches they might typify. On that basis, one could just as easily argue that Laodicea typifies the modern evangelical church: wealthy, prosperous, successful, and spiritually bankrupt!
