PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: “The Great White Throne Judgment (Part 3)” from Dr. Tim LaHaye

Now that we have verified the identity of the Judge, let’s consider the identity of those to be judged at the Great White Throne. John reports in Revelation 20:12, “I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God.” It is significant to note that all those who stand at the Great White Throne Judgment are “the dead”—dead in trespasses and sins because of their rejection of Jesus Christ. Note that the dead are referred to as “small and great.” God, who is no respecter of persons, judges fairly without regard to intellectual, physical, financial, or positional status.

Whether the remains or ashes of the dead are in the grave, in a mausoleum, on the earth, or in the sea, God will resurrect His creatures to their original bodies, souls, and spirits. These remains will be resurrected and united with their souls and spirits as they come up out of the place of torment, and in this resurrected form they will stand before the throne.

Revelation 20:12 goes on to say, “And the books were opened… and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” Evidently God owns a complete set of books that records every thought, motive, and action of a person’s life, waiting to be recalled on judgment day. It may be that each of us has an angel who, in this life, is responsible for recording everything we do. In connection with this thought, it is well to consider Ecclesiastes 12:14: “God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.” In this final hour, the books of man’s works (his deeds) will be opened.
