PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: “The Two Stages of the First Resurrection (Part 2)” from Dr. Tim LaHaye
John writes in Revelation 20:4, “And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.” Then he wrote: “But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”
The second stage of the first resurrection will probably include all the Old Testament saints who went to their graves with faith in God and His future sacrifice for their sin, as well as all the Tribulation saints, most of whom will have been martyred because they refused to worship the Antichrist. These shall “be priests,” and, like Christians raised at the rapture and judged for their works as believers, they will reign with Him a thousand years. The “rest of the dead” (or all the unbelievers who lived from the days of Adam and Eve until the time Christ comes to set up His kingdom) will not be raised until the end of that kingdom age, which comes just before eternity. They will take part in the second resurrection. It is a resurrection of the lost to judgment and then to eternal separation from God.
