The Bible says in Matthew 24:6-8: “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”
PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: “The Coming Kingdom of Christ, Part 2” from Dr. Tim LaHaye
Any attempt to establish the kingdom of God on earth before Christ comes is doomed to failure. The task of the church today is not “kingdom building.” Instead, it is to advance the spiritual kingdom by preaching the gospel around the world. This does not mean Christians who are members of that spiritual kingdom by faith in Christ do not have a responsibility to be both salt and light during this present age. Christians are to be salt in that they are a morally savoring influence on society by participating as good citizens in voting, running for office, and serving both their God and their country as good stewards.
Some do this as schoolteachers, ministers, attorneys, authors, artists, or movie producers, and others by running for public office as school board members, city councilmen, congressmen, senators, and so on. All responsible “salty citizens” will be careful to vote on election day to keep anti-Christians from ruling over us and limiting our freedom to fulfill our primary task, which is to be the light of the world in fulfillment of the Great Commission. Hopefully, in the closing years of the church age, Christians will be more faithful in these dual challenges than was Israel in the Old Testament.
