PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: “When Resurrected Christians Meet Their Lord (Part 7)” from Dr. Tim LaHaye

The Incorruptible Crown

This “imperishable crown” mentioned in 1 Corinthians 6:25-27 is often called “the victor’s crown.” It is different from the crown of righteousness; this is the crown that is given to the faithful servant who denies himself and his personal desires in order to win the race in faithful service. He doesn’t just avoid sin; in order to better serve his Lord, he avoids even some good things that other Christians enjoy.

Paul used runners as an illustration. They deny themselves personal time and relaxation to arduously train their body in order to win their race. Some Christians deny themselves financially to serve the Lord. I have often thought of teachers at Christian schools who scrimp on a tight budget because their salary is 25 to 50 percent lower than they would receive by teaching in the public sector. Many missionaries have to deny themselves years of family contact to bring the gospel to places far from horne, and the list goes on. This crown seems to be a reward for self-denial — a crown that few Christians in this self-indulgent age will receive.

Moses is a good example of one who will probably be given such a crown. While he could have remained as the number two man in Egypt, Scripture tells us: “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.”
