PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: “When Resurrected Christians Meet Their Lord (Part 4)” from Dr. Tim LaHaye
According to 1 Corinthians 3:12-13, some of these works will be gold, silver, or precious jewels, meaning that they will survive the fire and the believer will receive a reward. But the works that comprise wood, hay, and stubble will not survive the fire, and those believers will suffer loss of reward — not loss of salvation, but loss of reward. They will be saved “so as by fire,” or as we might say, “by the skin of their teeth.” They will be saved, but their works will be lost.
The works that won’t survive the fire are those that were not done with the right spirit or motive. To the eyes of man they may look like silver, gold, and precious stones, but in reality they are nothing but wood, hay, and stubble. God’s test will reveal what sort of works we have done, whether good or bad. The Scriptures provide some indication of what comprises good works and bad works.
Because our Lord challenged us to “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal”, many Christians think that earned rewards are forever secure. What they do not realize is that although no other person or power can take these rewards from us, we can destroy them ourselves by the way we live.
