PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: “Not Really So Obscure (Part 6)” from Dr. Tim LaHaye
Chapter 2 and 3 of Revelation describe events that will happen on the earth during the church age, while chapters 4 and 5 present a brief description of heaven just prior to the beginning of the Tribulation. Notice what happens to John, a member of the church age, in Revelation 4:1-2:
“After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.“
John is translated from earth to heaven before the Tribulation begins. This passage alone does not establish the rapture as a pre-tribulational event, but in light of the passages we have studied that describe the rapture and the translation of all believers (both dead and living) at this stage of Christ’s coming, the fact that John is called up into heaven prior to the chapters about the Tribulation could certainly serve as a clear implication of the pre-tribulational rapture. John is at least a symbol of the church being raptured to join Christ “in the air.”
