PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: The Certainty of Christ’s Second Coming, Part 9, from Dr. Tim LaHaye

To help you appreciate the New Testament’s emphasis on the second coming of Christ, we are continuing our quick tour through its 27 books, one book at a time. We have already covered the Gospels, the Book of Acts, the 13 epistles of Paul, and the 8 non-Pauline epistles. Today, we will conclude this survey by looking at the book of Revelation.

The Bible ends with an entire book filled with prophecies about the second coming. It directs us to a study of things forecast from the first century, after Christ’s ascension, all the way until the end of the world.

Although we have covered many of the outstanding references to the Lord’s second coming as found from Matthew to Revelation, this list is by no means exhaustive. There’s much more material that God has provided in His Word to establish the absolute certainty of His Son’s coming back to this earth.

The sheer weight of evidence leads to the conclusion that if one believes the Bible, he must believe in the second coming of Christ. Not only was this a universal conviction and motivating factor in the life of the early church, but all nine authors of the New Testament mentioned it. Since they universally accepted so literally our Lord’s promise, “I will come again,” can we do any less?
