Putin condemns U.S. for turning away from Christian values (Second Coming Watch Update #469)

1. According to Breitbart, Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the West, including the United States, for eschewing Christian values and opting instead for a “path to degradation.” In his State of the Nation speech last month, Putin asserted that, “Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values. Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan.”

2. According to The Times of Israel, the head of Israel’s most powerful intelligence agency depicted Wednesday a changing battlefield in which offensive cyber capabilities will, in the near future, represent the greatest shift in combat doctrine in over 1,000 years. Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, the head of the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate said, “Cyber, in my humble opinion, will be revealed in a not very long time as a revolution greater than the creation of gunpowder or the usage of the aerial space at the start of the past century.” He called the possibilities inherent in cyber warfare “nearly limitless, and that is not a metaphor.”

3. According to AFP (Agence France-Presse), a senior U.S. defense official has warned that China poses an increasing challenge to the US military’s technological edge while budget pressures are hampering Washington’s effort to stay ahead. Frank Kendall, the Pentagon’s chief weapons buyer, told lawmakers that when it comes to “technological superiority, the Department of Defense is being challenged in ways that I have not seen for decades, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.”

4. According to the Times of Israel, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper wrote in a report to a Senate intelligence committee on Wednesday that Iran now has all the technical infrastructure to produce nuclear weapons should it make the political decision to do so. However, he added, it could not break out to the bomb without being detected.

5. According to The Jerusalem Post, Israel accused Lebanon’s Hezbollah guerrillas on of putting “thousands” of bases in residential buildings and said it would destroy these in a future conflict, even at the cost of civilian lives. The unusually explicit threat by air force chief Major-General Amir Eshel appeared to be part of an effort by Israeli officials to prepare world opinion for high civilian casualties in any new confrontation with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 24:27: “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

Our Second Coming quote for today is from John Chrysostom. He said: “In the first advent God veiled his divinity to prove the faithful; in the second advent he will manifest his glory to reward their faith.”

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: The Certainty of Christ’s Second Coming, Part 7, from Dr. Tim LaHaye

To help you appreciate the New Testament’s emphasis on the second coming of Christ, we are continuing our quick tour through its 27 books, one book at a time. We have already covered the Gospels, the Book of Acts, and the 13 epistles of Paul. Today, we will begin looking at the other epistles.

Hebrews. This is a magnificent presentation of Christ as the fulfillment of Old Testament types and symbols. One of the promises of our Lord’s return found in this book states, “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”

James. This little book, which challenges Christians to show their faith by their works, culminates with a strong appeal relative to the coming of Christ: “Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”

Peter. Writing to a church that was undergoing the trials of persecution, the apostle Peter challenged the elders to be faithful leaders on the basis of the Lord’s coming: “And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.” Peter’s second epistle contains a lengthy prophecy concerning the rise of scoffers in the days just preceding Christ’s coming. He promised that in spite of theur ridicule, “the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.”

Your threats offer our revolutionary people the best opportunity.”

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17: “For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: The Certainty of Christ’s Second Coming, Part 6, from Dr. Tim LaHaye

To help you appreciate the New Testament’s emphasis on the second coming of Christ, we are continuing our quick tour through its 27 books, one book at a time. We have already covered the Gospels and the Book of Acts. Today, we will continue looking at the thirteen epistles of Paul.

Like 1 and 2 Thessalonians, the epistles to Timothy provide many references to the second coming of Christ. And 2 Timothy 1:10 and 4:1 and 8 refer to “the appearing” and “His appearing.”

The book of Titus contains the advice of a veteran servant of God to a young preacher on how to conduct the work of the Lord in the church. Paul challenged Titus to teach people to deny themselves “ungodliness and worldly lusts and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age.” Verse 13 shows that the motivation for such living is “the blessed hope” (the rapture of the church) and the “glorious appearing” (the second phase of Christ’s coming, when He comes physically to set up His earthly kingdom).

When all the books of Paul are considered, we find that only two of them omit mention of the second coming, and one of these is Philemon, a personal letter only one chapter long. There is no question that the apostle Paul was absolutely certain that his Lord and Savior was coming back to this earth again, and he repeatedly urged pastors to teach this truth.

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: The Certainty of Christ’s Second Coming, Part 5, from Dr. Tim LaHaye

To help you appreciate the New Testament’s emphasis on the second coming of Christ, we are continuing our quick tour through its 27 books, one book at a time. We have already covered the Gospels and the Book of Acts. Today, we will continue looking at the thirteen epistles of Paul.

All but two of Paul’s epistles contain one or more references to the second coming. It is obliquely cited in Romans 11:26 and 14:10, where he talks about the judgment seat of Christ. That judgment is described in detail in 1 Corinthians 3:9-15. Then in 1 Corinthains 15, Paul not only describes the resurrection of the body, but gives details of the rapture in verses 50-58. He also refers to some of these same second-coming truths in 2 Corinthians 1:14 and 5:10. Galatians, which offers a detailed discussion on the finished work of Christ on the cross, does not contain a clear reference to the second coming, though an allusion to the event appears in verse 4 of chapter 1. Ephesians presents the Christian “in the heavenly places,” and the “day of redemption” can only mean the day of deliverance through Christ’s return. Philippians contains several references to the Lord’s coming, the best of which is Philippians 3:20-21:

“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”

A thrilling promise also appears Colossians: “When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”

4. According to Reuters, China will base a patrol ship on one of the main islands it controls in the disputed South China Sea and begin regular patrols, a move likely to add fuel to territorial disputes with neighbors. The China Ocean News, published by the State Oceanic Administration, said the ship would be based on Woody Island, which China calls Sansha city.

5. According to Reuters, An apparent delay in Iran’s building of a nuclear conversion plant suggests its stockpile of low-enriched uranium gas will grow for a while longer, despite Tehran’s deal with world powers to curb its disputed atomic activity.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 11:25-26: “After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

Our Second Coming quote for today is from J.C. Ryle. He said, “Uncertainty about the date of the Lord’s return is calculated to keep believers in an attitude of constant expectation and to preserve them from despondency.”

Breaking Prophecy News; The Certainty of Christ’s Second Coming, Part 4 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #353)

PROPHECY HEADLINES:

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: The Certainty of Christ’s Second Coming, Part 4, from Dr. Tim LaHaye

To help you appreciate the New Testament’s emphasis on the second coming of Christ, we are continuing our quick tour through its 27 books, one book at a time. We have already covered the Gospels and the Book of Acts. Today, we will begin looking at the thirteen epistles of Paul.

The writings of the apostle Paul had a tremendous impact on the early church. Paul imparted deep doctrinal teaching, practical exhortation, correction, and instruction on many aspects of the Christian life. Thirteen times he mentioned baptism, and only twice did he touch on communion, yet he mentioned the second coming of our Lord 50 times.

First Thessalonians is considered the first letter Paul wrote. In it he referred the young believers at Thessalonica to the second coming of Christ in every chapter! He repeated that emphasis in even greater detail in 2 Thessalonians. These epistles demonstrate how early and insistently Paul taught new converts the doctrine of Christ’s return, for he was in their city only three weeks before angry Jews drove him out of town.

The apostle’s love of the second coming is also seen in his rather stern words at the conclusion of 1 Corinthians: “If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.”

The Greek word Paul used in that last phrase, maranatha, means “the Lord is coming.” That expression gained popularity in the first century and became a common expression of greeting and parting. Christians often included it in letters, and in some cases even soldiers used it as a slogan when they went off to war.
