The U.S. sends warships and marines to Libya. According to the Associated Press, two U.S. warships and a special unit of roughly 50 members of the Marine Corps are being stationed off of Libya’s coast following an attack on the U.S. embassy compound in Ben-gha-zi. One destroyer, the USS Laboon, had “moved to a position off the coast” by Wednesday, and the USS McFaul was said to be arriving “within days.” The ships are equipped with the Aegis Combat System and are loaded with Tomahawk cruise missiles.

The virus has been detected in humans in all but five states and has been found in humans, birds, or mosquitoes in every state except Hawaii and Alaska.

The findings from the non-partisan National Research Council are highly critical of President Obama’s missile defense strategy, which focuses on protecting Europe from shorter-range Iranian missiles, and calls for more emphasis to be placed on shielding the United States against long-range threats.
