U.S. State Department Won’t Say Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel (Second Coming Watch Update #57)

U.S. State Department Won’t Say Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel. According to The Weekly Standard, there was an amazing exchange yesterday at the State Department press briefing when the press secretary refused to say that Jerusalem is the capital of the state of Israel. State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland said in response to a question, “We are not going to prejudge the outcome of those negotiations, including the final status of Jerusalem.” When pressed further, Nuland stood her ground. She said, “Our policy with regard to Jerusalem is that it has to be solved through negotiations. That’s all I have to say on this issue.”

The Bible says in Isaiah 2:3, “And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”

Independent Panel to review Wycliffe and SIL Bible translations. According to Christian Today, a panel has been formed to carry out an independent review of Wycliffe and SIL International’s translation of “God the Father” and the “Son of God”. The World Evangelical Alliance, which works in 129 countries, was asked to establish the panel in light of the controversy surrounding the translation of “Father” and “Son” for Muslim contexts. In Arabic and Turkish translations of the Bible, “Father” is replaced with “Allah”, while “Messiah” is used where “Son” would appear in standard translations. Critics of the changes, including John Piper and Vern Poyth-ress, argue that the translations blur the nature of the Trinity.

The Bible says in Proverbs 30:5-6: “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”

Analysts for the Congressional Research Service wrote that neither Israel nor the US is certain of the locations of all such facilities.

Arab Uprisings Bring Islamist Regional Vision Closer to Reality (Second Coming Watch Update #56)

Arab uprisings bring Islamist regional vision closer to reality. According to Reuters, the Muslim Brotherhood has quietly spread its influence far beyond Egypt in its 84-year history, but Arab revolts have opened broad new political horizons the group hopes will reflect its founder’s vision for the Arab and Islamic world. Mah-moud Ghoz-lan, a member of the Brotherhood’s executive bureau, said “There is no doubt that Hassan al-Banna believed in Islamic unity and not just Arab unity. But with such a vision we must consider reality and what is possible. The Brotherhood, banned and repressed under President Hosni Mubarak, did not instigate the uprising against him, but like Islamist parties elsewhere it has been the main beneficiary, using free elections to sweep to the brink of power.

According to Russian newspaper, Ria Novosti, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will make his case for a repeat attempt to win full UN membership for Palestine at the Arab League summit in Baghdad. According to Reuters, international envoy Kofi Annan said on Tuesday that Syria has accepted a U.N.-sponsored peace plan, even as troops loyal to President Bashar al-Assad raided rebel forces who have taken refuge across the border in Lebanon. The United States reacted skeptically to Annan’s announcement, saying it would judge Assad’s sincerity in agreeing to the peace plan by what he did and not by what he said, given his record of “over-promising and under-delivering.” Syrian troops advanced into north Lebanon, destroying farm buildings in pursuit of Syrian rebels.

Nevertheless, the exercise is an indication of preparations by the military for additional confrontations with Gazan terrorist organizations.
