Are We Living in the Last Days, Part 2 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #675)

Welcome to The Prophet Daniel’s Report. This is report #675.

My name is Daniel Whyte III here to remind you that Jesus Christ is coming back soon and that you need to be prepared. This broadcast is not about predictions, nor is it about setting dates as some foolishly have done, however it is all about preparation.

First, today, let’s look at some Signs of His Coming in the news.

The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 24:3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus Christ gave them (and us) clear signs that show us when we can begin to expect to see the Coming of the Lord and the end of the world. Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to WHIO, according to a Johns Hopkins University tally, the global death toll attributed to the novel coronavirus hit 38,714 early Tuesday. In the three months since the virus was first identified in Wuhan [WOO-HAHN], China, it has infected at least 800,049 people worldwide.

Second, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Breaking Israel News, A rocket was fired at Israel from Gaza on Friday evening despite coronavirus restrictions, sending Israelis from the isolation in their homes into crowded bomb shelters. The IDF spokesperson stated, “IDF planes and tanks attacked Hamas military positions and infrastructure used for underground activity in the northern Gaza Strip a short time ago. The attacks were carried out in response to the firing of a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip toward Israel earlier this evening.” The decision to fire rockets at Israel comes right after Hamas, the ruling party in Gaza, closed the mosques due to the coronavirus. Hamas also announced that parties and gatherings of mourners would be banned and event halls, restaurants and cafes would be closed.

Third, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to Reuters, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Indonesia on Saturday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The quake’s epicentre was 105 kilometres south of Palu [PAH-LOO] on the island of Sulawesi [SOO-LUH-WAY-SEE], and 40 kilometres below the earth’s surface. Indonesia’s meteorology and geophysics agency noted on its website that two subsequent earthquakes struck nearby areas in the Central Sulawesi [SOO-LUH-WAY-SEE] province.

Now, it’s time for Prophecy Bootcamp.

Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.

Our topic for today is titled “Are We Living in the Last Days, Part 2” from Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson’s book “The Essential Guide to Bible Prophecy.”

Many believe we have now moved to the final round in the struggle for world dominion. The collapse of communism removed one of the significant players in what one writer called the “Millennial Endgame.” But the end of the Cold War is by no means the end of the struggle for world supremacy.

Our neglect of God’s revelation has pushed us to the limits of our own rationalization. We have abandoned rationality for irrationality in the attempt to hold onto belief in something–anything–beyond ourselves. All through the twentieth century, we allowed godless secularism to replace the Judeo-Christian values of our society. We deliberately and systematically removed God from prominence in our culture and in our intellectual lives. We have made Him irrelevant to our culture.

Tragically, we have also made our culture irrelevant to God. In so doing, we have abandoned our spiritual heritage. The Christian consensus that once dominated Western culture is now shattered. The world is already mired in the quicksand of secularism, relativism, and mysticism. In the place of biblical Christianity, people are now calling for the New World Order, which consists of the very elements Scripture warns will signify the empire of the Antichrist.

Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic in our next podcast.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and I to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. It is a collection of what he called “prophetic tracts” that focus on the believer’s duty in light of the signs which point to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

This section is titled, “Idolatry to be Destroyed at Christ’s Coming” (Part 8). J.C. Ryle writes:

A religion of some kind man will have. God has not left Himself without a witness in us all, fallen as we are. Like old inscriptions hidden under mounds of rubbish,–like the almost-obliterated underwriting of Palimpsest manuscripts,–even so there is a dim something engraven at the bottom of man’s heart, however faint and half-erased,–a something which makes him feel he must have a religion and a worship of some kind. The proof of this is to be found in the history of voyages and travels in every part of the globe. The exceptions to the rule are so few, if, indeed, there are any, that they only confirm its truth. Man’s worship in some dark corner of the earth may rise no higher than a vague fear of an evil spirit, and a desire to propitiate him, but a worship of some kind man will have.

But then comes in the effect of the fall. Ignorance of God, carnal and low conceptions of His nature and attributes, earthly and sensual notions of the service which is acceptable to Him, all characterize the religion of the natural man. There is a craving in his mind after something he can see, and feel, and touch in his Divinity. He would fain bring His God down to his own crawling level. He would make his religion a thing of sense and sight. He has no idea of faith and spirit. In short, just as he is willing to live on God’s earth, but until renewed by grace, a fallen and degraded life, so he has no objection to worship after a fashion, but, until renewed by the Holy Ghost, it is always with a fallen worship. In one word, idolatry is a natural product of man’s heart. It is a weed, which like the earth uncultivated, the heart is always ready to bring forth.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

CLOSING PRAYER
…….

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the Return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…” Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to CNN, Monday was the deadliest day in the United States’ fight against the Covid-19 disease caused by the coronavirus with more than 100 new deaths reported. And Monday saw more governors taking actions such as restricting group sizes, closing bars and restaurants, and in the case of Texas, restricting medical procedures including abortions. More than 42,000 people in the United States have been infected with coronavirus, and at least 515 people have died. At least 15 states have issued stay-at-home orders that are either in effect or will take effect this week. More than 137 million Americans live in states that will have those new rules in place.

Second, today, under the Sign category of FAMINES — According to Breaking Israel News, Just as the Biblical plagues skipped over the Children of Israel in Egypt, authorities reported that a huge swarm of locusts headed towards the Middle East will skip over Israel. Locust Watch, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, reported that “new swarms are forming in the Horn of Africa.” Locust Watch posted on its website, “The situation remains extremely alarming in the Horn of Africa, specifically Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia where widespread breeding is in progress and new swarms are starting to form, representing an unprecedented threat to food security and livelihoods at the beginning of the upcoming cropping season.” According to Locusts Watch’s three-month forecast, the threat will pass south of Israel before heading east towards Yemen, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan. A similar swarm threatened Israel last year just before the Passover holiday but never materialized.

Third, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to Daily Mail, An area the size of Chicago in Yellowstone National Park has been inflating and deflating by several inches over the past decade. The Norris Geyser Basin, the oldest, hottest and most dynamic thermal area in the park, was observed to rise 5.9 inches each year from 2013 to 2015 – an unusual event that left researchers baffled. Now, using satellite radar and GPS data, experts have determined the ground deformation was caused by magma intrusions trapped below the basin’s surface. As magma made its way to the surface, the pressure pushed rocks above it up and created an erratic pulsating effect. Yellowstone National Park sits in the northwest region of Wyoming and is home to bursting geysers, steam vents and bubbling pools. Below the park is a ‘supervolcano’ that scientists believe last erupted thousands of years ago, but the new study shows there is still magma flowing beneath the surface.

Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.

Our topic for today is titled “Are We Living in the Last Days, Part 1” from Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson’s book “The Essential Guide to Bible Prophecy.”

The apostle Paul looked down the corridor of time into the distant future and predicted, “In the last days perilous times will come”. Are those days here now? Is the coming of Christ on the horizon?

The world is changing every day. We are standing on the edge of a new day in world politics. The dramatic changes we have witnessed in Europe, the Middle East, and the former Soviet Union tell us that the world is undergoing a massive transformation. The aftermath of World War II has long since been shaken from us like dust from an old rag. Eastern Europe is awakening to a new day of hope and freedom. But turmoil in the Middle East reminds us that the world is still facing difficult days ahead.

At the same time, there is great concern about where all these changes are taking us. Charles Colson has said, “We sense that things are winding down, that somehow freedom, justice, and order are slipping away. Our great civilization may not yet lie in smoldering ruins, but the enemy is within the gates. The times seem to smell of sunset.” He goes on to suggest that Western civilization is facing the greatest crisis encountered since the barbarians invaded Rome.

Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic in our next podcast.

This section is titled, “Idolatry to be Destroyed at Christ’s Coming” (Part 7). J.C. Ryle writes:

Now, both these persons betray a woeful ignorance of human nature. They do not see that there are secret roots of idolatry within us all. The prevalence of idolatry in all ages among the heathen must necessarily puzzle the one,–the warnings of Protestant ministers against idolatry in the Church must necessarily appear uncalled for to the other, since both are alike blind to its cause.

The cause of all idolatry is the natural corruption of man’s heart. That great family disease, with which all the children of Adam are born, shows itself in this, as it does in a thousand other ways. Out of the same fountain from which “proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit,” and the like,–out of that same fountain arise false views of God, and false views of the worship due to Him; and therefore, when the Apostle Paul tells the Galatians what are the “works of the flesh,” he places prominently among them “idolatry.”

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

Interpreting the Bible Literally, Part 2 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #673)

My name is Daniel Whyte III here to remind you that Jesus Christ is coming back soon and that you need to be prepared. This broadcast is not about predictions, nor is it about setting dates as some foolishly have done, however it is all about preparation.

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS & PERPLEXITY AMONG PEOPLE — According to The Associated Press, Officials across the the US curtailed many elements of American life to fight the coronavirus outbreak on Sunday, with health officials recommending that groups of 10 or more don’t get together and a government expert saying a 14-day national shutdown may be needed. Governors were closing restaurants, bars, and schools as the nation sank deeper into chaos over the crisis. Travelers returning home from overseas trips were stuck in line for hours at major airports for screenings, causing them to be crammed into just the kind of crowded spaces that public health officials have been urging people to avoid. In a sign of the impending economic gloom on the horizon, the Federal Reserve slashed its benchmark interest rate to near zero. US President Donald Trump sought to calm a jittery nation by declaring that the government has “tremendous control” over the situation and urging people to stop the panic buying of grocery staples that has depleted the shelves of stores around the country. Gun stores started seeing a similar run on weapons and ammunition as the panic intensified.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to SpaceWar.com, Iran on Friday warned US President Donald Trump against taking ‘dangerous actions’ after American forces launched air strikes that they said targeted a pro-Iranian armed group in neighbouring Iraq. Foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi [MOO-SAH-VEE] said, “The United States cannot blame others… for the consequences of its illegal presence in Iraq and the nation’s reaction to the assassination and killing of Iraqi commanders and fighters. Instead of dangerous actions and baseless accusations, Mr. Trump should reconsider the presence and behaviour of his troops in the area.” The statement was issued hours after the Pentagon said the US had launched strikes against the Kataeb [KAH-TABE] Hezbollah armed faction.

Third, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to Israel National News, Italy reported its biggest one-day increase in coronavirus cases and deaths since the outbreak began. The Associated Press reported some 3,590 additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in a 24-hour period, nearly 100 more than the increase as the day before. The additional infections reported represent the country’s biggest day-to-day increase. Italy’s Civil Protection chief Angelo Borrelli announced the latest number of cases, bringing the total number of people with the new coronavirus to 31,506. The number of deaths increased to 2,503.

Our topic for today is titled “Interpreting the Bible Literally, Part 2” from Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson’s book “The Essential Guide to Bible Prophecy.”

Interpret by comparing prophecy with prophecy. Prophecies weave their way from some of the earliest chapters in Genesis to the very end of Revelation. Thus, the interpreter of prophecy should compare Scripture with Scripture in order to ascertain the entire teaching on prophetic subjects. By so doing, a complete and accurate picture comes into focus of what God is going to do and perhaps how and why He is going to do it.

Interpret in light of possible time intervals. Because the ancients did not fully understand the flow of time, sometimes the prophetic message compresses the time between events. This telescoping phenomenon is common in the prophets and reveals gaps in prophetic fulfillment. A key passage to illustrate this is Daniel 9:24-27, where such a gap is critical in properly understanding the prophecy. Of course, only in the progress of God’s revelation can we see such intervals of time between prophetic fulfillments.

The prophecies of Christ’s first coming were fulfilled literally in minute detail. Therefore, we have every confidence that the prophecies of His second coming will be fulfilled literally as well. Jesus really is coming back to rapture believers and take them to the Father’s house. He is also coming again to judge the world, defeat the Antichrist, bind Satan, and bring the kingdom of heaven to earth. That leaves us with only one question: When?

Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic in our next podcast.

Gather up these things in your mind, beloved brethren. Be very sure that idolatry is a subject which in every Church of Christ that would keep herself pure, should be thoroughly examined, understood, and known.

Let me show you, in the second place, the cause to which idolatry may be traced. Whence comes it?

To the man who takes an extravagant and exalted view of human intellect and reason, idolatry may seem absurd. He fancies it too irrational for any but weak minds to be endangered by it.

To a mere superficial thinker about Christianity, the peril of idolatry may seem very small. Whatever commandments are broken, such a man will tell us, professing Christians are not very likely to transgress the second.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS & PERPLEXITY AMONG PEOPLE — According to NBC News, The coronavirus epidemic has had a ripple effect on some of the world’s busiest cities, with fears of the highly contagious virus emptying cafes, public squares and streets in China, South Korea, Japan and Italy, among other countries. The streets of Seoul, the South Korean capital, stood nearly empty this week. Those who do venture out wear masks. In Japan, which has seen more than 250 cases — not including the passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship — and 12 deaths, TV stations are airing continuous coverage on the virus. In Milan, Italy’s business capital and the center of the country’s outbreak, restaurants, bars and train stations are much less crowded than normal. Italy is the worst-hit country in Europe, with more than 1,800 cases of coronavirus and 52 deaths. France, Germany and Spain each have over 100 cases, and the United Kingdom has 40.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to Breaking Israel News, Mesut Hakki Casin [MES-UT HAH-KEE KAY-SIN], a prominent member of Turkey’s Security and Foreign Policy Board, who advises Erdogan, said: “We have fought Russia 16 times in the past, and we will fight it again.“ Casin [KAY-SIN] made his statements following the death of 33 Turkish soldiers who were killed in an airstrike by Russian-backed Syrian forces in Idlib. The official hinted that they will use Muslims inside Russia to assist them with their efforts saying that Moscow “will be shattered from inside” should a war break out between the two countries. Following a request from Ankara, NATO convened an urgent meeting to review the situation in Idlib. Turkish officials vowed to retaliate against Syria following the attack on their troops.

Third, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to The Jerusalem Post, With at least 50,000 people in quarantine, the Israeli Health Ministry expanded its list of restrictive orders, which will likely lead to thousands more Israelis going into home isolation. By some reports, as many as 100,000 people are currently in isolation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “We have to understand, we are in the midst of a global epidemic, the most dangerous of these epidemics in the last 100 years.” He said that Israel is in one of the best positions of any Western country. “We had to take tough, even very rigid steps to slow the spread of the disease in Israel, and indeed it did. Today we will take similar steps, dozens more steps.” Those steps include that a person returning to the country from France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain or Austria will be required to enter 14 days of quarantine.

Our topic for today is titled “Interpreting the Bible Literally, Part 1” from Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson’s book “The Essential Guide to Bible Prophecy.”

One of the most important keys to studying Bible prophecy is to interpret the text literally. One of the basic rules of biblical interpretation is this: If the literal sense makes good sense, seek no other sense, lest it result in nonsense. When evangelical Christians read the Bible, we take literally its statements about Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, His ministry in Galilee, and His miracles of healing the sick and raising the dead. We believe He was literally crucified and buried and that He literally rose from the dead. So why shouldn’t we believe He will literally come back one day?

We understand, of course, that the Bible sometimes uses figurative language. For example, Jesus is called the Lamb of God 28 times in the book of Revelation. This does not mean that He is a literal lamb. The term “Lamb,” in reference to Christ, is intended to give us a symbolic picture of Christ as our atoning sacrifice. But the symbolic use of “Lamb” does not eliminate the literal truth of Christ as our atoning sacrifice.

Prophecy scholar Paul N. Benware provides us with some very important additional principles to help us interpret prophecy literally.

This section is titled, “Idolatry to be Destroyed at Christ’s Coming” (Part 5). J.C. Ryle writes:

This is that sin, remember, which God has especially denounced in His Word. One commandment out of ten is devoted to the prohibition of it. None of all the ten contain such a solemn declaration of His character and His judgments against the disobedient: “I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me.” None, perhaps, of all the ten is so emphatically repeated and amplified, and especially in the fourth chapter of the book of Deuteronomy.

This is the sin of all others which has brought down the heaviest judgments on the visible Church. It brought on Israel the armies of Egypt, Assyria, and Babylon. It scattered the ten tribes, burned up Jerusalem, and carried Judah and Benjamin into captivity. It brought on the Eastern Churches, in later days, the overwhelming flood of the Saracenic invasion, and turned many a spiritual garden into a wilderness. The desolation which reigns where Cyprian and Augustine once preached–the living death in which the Churches of Asia Minor and Syria are buried–are all attributable to this sin. All testify to the same great truth which the Lord proclaims in Isaiah, “My glory will I not give to another.”

Taking Prophecy Seriously, Part 2 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #671)

Welcome to The Prophet Daniel’s Report. This is report #671.

First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to Breaking Israel News, After failed talks with Russian officials over the intensifying military conflict in Syria, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyib Erdogan issued his “final warnings” to Moscow. Erdogan said, “We are making our final warnings. We did not reach the desired results in our talks with Russia. A Turkish offensive in Idlib is only a matter of time.” On Thursday, Turkish troops with heavy weapons entered northern Idlib while Turkish artillery shelled Syrian army positions. The Russian air force came to the aid of the Syrian army, bombing Turkish positions in the region. Fifty Syrian soldiers and members of Iranian-backed Shiite militias were killed in the battle and Turkey lost two soldiers. The Turkish military and their Islamist rebel allies also destroyed five tanks and four armored vehicles belonging to the pro-Assad troops.

Second, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to the New York Post, a World Health Organization expert said the deadly coronavirus is looking a lot like the theoretical “Disease X” that officials have long warned could spark a dangerous pandemic. Marion Koopmans, a member of WHO’s emergency committee, said the virus is the first to meet the criteria of the so-called “Disease X” — defined as a quick-spreading and unpredictable illness caused by a previously unknown pathogen. The new virus, now identified as COVID-19, has spread beyond China to more than 80,000 people in almost three dozen countries and territories — since December. WHO gave the name “Disease X” in 2017 to “a serious international epidemic caused by a pathogen currently unknown.” The not-yet-identified illness was added to a list of nine diseases with the capability to cause a global health crisis.

Third, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to Breaking Israel News, A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck the Turkey-Iran border region early Sunday morning at a very shallow depth of 3 miles and affected at least 43 villages in Turkey and in Iran. At least eight people were killed and 37 more injured. Many more are believed to be still buried under an estimated 1,066 collapsed buildings. The earthquake was followed by three aftershocks between magnitude-4.1 and magnitude-4.4 and eleven hours later by an even larger 6.0 aftershock. The earthquake was also widely felt in Iran and 51 people were reportedly injured in the quake. Iran and Turkey sit on top of a major fault line between the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates and are among the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.

Our topic for today is titled “Taking Prophecy Seriously, Part 2” from Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson’s book “The Essential Guide to Bible Prophecy.”

In past centuries, when Christians talked about the end of the world, people often laughed at them because they could not conceive of the entire planet being destroyed. But today, both Christians and skeptics realize that such destruction is well within the realm of possibility.

The Bible warns us that the “day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night”. It will be an instantaneous event that will catch the world unprepared. In fact, the Bible reminds us that people will promise, “‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace”.

People have consistently demonstrated that they cannot bring a permanent and lasting peace to this world. Every human effort at peace has been short-lived and destined to failure. At the end of time, when the stakes are the highest, the greatest gamble ever made for peace will end in the greatest battle of all time–at Armageddon.

This section is titled, “Idolatry to be Destroyed at Christ’s Coming” (Part 4). J.C. Ryle writes:

I ask you to mark this, my brethren. I ask you to dismiss from your minds those loose ideas about idolatry, which are common in this day. Think not, as many do, that there are only two sorts of idolatry–the spiritual idolatry of the man who loves his wife or child or money more than God; and the open, gross idolatry of the man who bows down to an image of wood, or metal, or stone, because he knows no better. Depend upon it, idolatry is a sin that occupies a far, far wider field than this. It is not merely a thing in Hindostan, that you may hear of and pity at missionary meetings; nor yet is it a thing confined to your own heart, that you may confess before the mercy-seat upon your knees. It is a pestilence that walks in the Church of Christ to a much greater extent than many of you suppose. It is an evil that, like the Man of sin, “sits in the very temple of God.” It is a sin that we all need to watch and pray against continually. It creeps into our religious worship insensibly, and is upon us before we are aware. Those are tremendous words which Isaiah spoke to the formal Jew–not to the worshipper of Baal, remember, but to the man who actually came to the temple: “He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offereth an oblation as if he offered swine’s blood; he that burneth incense as if he blessed an idol.”

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Jerusalem Post, The IDF struck multiple targets belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad after over 15 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israel in second day of violence with the Iranian-backed terror group. While the military struck only PIJ targets, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to target Hamas if the ruling group couldn’t stop the rocket fire. Netanyahu said on Army Radio: “If you don’t shoot them, we will shoot you. I’m talking about a war. I only go to war as a last option but we have prepared something you can’t even imagine.” His interview was interrupted by fresh sirens warning of incoming rockets.

Second, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to SpaceWar.com, Turkey said it wanted no ‘face-off’ with Moscow over Syria’s offensive near the two countries’ border but said it might receive US defence missiles to protect Turkish forces. Tensions have mounted in the last three months between rebel-backer Turkey and Syria ally Moscow over President Bashar al-Assad’s offensive in northwest Idlib, the last-rebel held region. Earlier this month, 14 Turks were killed in two separate incidents of regime shelling in Idlib. Two more were killed on Thursday. There has been no concrete agreement between Russia and Turkey after two rounds of talks between their respective delegations in Ankara and Moscow earlier this month.

Third, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to ZeroHedge, Doctors working on the front lines of the novel coronavirus outbreak have told the Taiwan Times that it’s possible to become reinfected by the virus, leading to death from sudden heart failure in some cases. A statement said: “It’s highly possible to get infected a second time. A few people recovered from the first time by their own immune system, but the meds they use are damaging their heart tissue, and when they get it the second time, the antibody doesn’t help but makes it worse, and they die a sudden death from heart failure.” The source also said the virus has “outsmarted all of us,” as it can hide symptoms for up to 24 days. Also, the source said that false negative tests for the virus are fairly common. “It can fool the test kit – there were cases that they found, the CT scan shows both lungs are fully infected but the test came back negative four times. The fifth test came back positive.”

Our topic for today is titled “Taking Prophecy Seriously, Part 1” from Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson’s book “The Essential Guide to Bible Prophecy.”

Evangelical Christians take seriously the Bible’s prophecies about such topics as the rapture, the Tribulation, Armageddon, and the return of Christ. In fact, many are convinced that the march to Armageddon, the last great battle, has already begun. They sense that the stage is being set, that we are living in the end times, and that the world will soon be plunged into a series of cataclysmic wars that may well claim three-fourths of the world’s population.

In recent years, more and more of the secular community has come to agree that we seem to be approaching the end of the world. Nobel laureates and other reputable scientists have warned that the earth’s time clock is running out. Air and water pollution, the evaporation of the protective ozone layer, the elimination of oxygen-producing rain forests, and the general instability of the earth’s crust have all been cited as serious problems that could hinder the future of life on this planet. The current proliferation of weapons of mass destruction is almost beyond belief, and many of those weapons are suspected to be in the hands of unscrupulous terrorists.

Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic in our next podcast.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and I to do in light of His Second Coming.

This section is titled, “Idolatry to be Destroyed at Christ’s Coming” (Part 3). J.C. Ryle writes:

You must bear in mind that it is not necessary for a man formally to deny God and Christ in order to be an idolater. Far from it. Professed reverence for the God of the Bible and actual idolatry are perfectly compatible. They have often gone side by side, and they still do so. The children of Israel never thought of renouncing God when they persuaded Aaron to make the golden calf. “These be thy gods,” they said (thy Elohim), “which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.” And the feast in honour of the calf was kept as a “a feast unto the Lord” (Jehovah). Jeroboam, again, never pretended to ask the ten tribes to cast off their allegiance to the God of David and Solomon. When he set up the calves of Gold in Dan and Bethel, he only said, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy Gods, O Israel (thy Elohim), which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.” In both instances, you will observe the idol was not set up as a rival to God, but under the pretence of being a help–a stepping stone to His service. But, in both instances, you know well, a great sin was committed. The honour due to God was given to a visible representation of Him. The majesty of Jehovah was offended. The second commandment was broken. There was, in the eyes of God, a flagrant act of idolatry.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

PODCAST: A Variety of Views, Part 4 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #669 with Daniel Whyte III)

Welcome to The Prophet Daniel’s Report. This is report #669.

First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Jerusalem Post, Incoming rocket sirens were activated in southern Israel on Sunday night, hours after Defense Minister Naftali Bennett warned Hamas that “no one will be immune” from IDF action following the continued launching of explosive balloons and rockets from the Gaza Strip. The IDF said one rocket was identified as being launched from the coastal enclave. There were no reports of injury or damage after the projectile struck an open field. Hamas responded to the threats made by Netanyahu and Bennett earlier, warning Israel that it would bear the consequences of any “foolish action” in the Gaza Strip. Following a situation assessment in the Gaza Division, Bennett said, “The lawless conduct of Hamas leadership is bringing us closer to fatal action against them. We will not announce when or where, but no one will be immune.” There has been incessant rocket fire and explosive balloons launched towards Israel’s south from the Hamas-run Strip since the release last month of US President Donald Trump’s “Deal of the Century” peace plan which has been rejected by the terrorist group. There has also been a spike in violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem, leading to the deaths of four Palestinians and injured dozens of soldiers.

Second, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to Reuters, China raised the death toll from its coronavirus outbreak to 811, passing the number killed globally by the SARS epidemic, as authorities made plans for millions of people returning to work after an extended Lunar New Year break. Many of China’s usually teeming cities have almost become ghost towns during the past two weeks as Communist Party rulers ordered virtual lockdowns, canceled flights, closed factories and shut schools. The scale of the potential hit to an economy that has been the engine of global growth in recent years has taken a toll on financial markets, as shares slumped and investors switched into safe-havens such as gold, bonds and the Japanese yen. In a BBC interview, China’s ambassador to Britain described the newly identified virus as “the enemy of mankind” but added it “is controllable, is preventable, is curable. At this moment it is very difficult to predict when we are going to have an inflection point. We certainly hope it will come soon, but the isolation and quarantine measures have been very effective.” Commission data showed total confirmed coronavirus cases in China stood at 37,198. The virus has also spread to at least 27 countries and territories, infecting more than 330 people.

Third, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Jerusalem Post, Palestinians are again planning mass protests against US President Donald Trump’s plan for Mideast peace – this time when Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to address the UN Security Council in New York. Some Arab states, meanwhile, have “advised” Abbas to “turn down the volume” of his rhetorical attacks on the US and Israel. A senior PA official in Ramallah [RUH-MAH-LAH] said, “Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries have advised President Abbas to start calming things down. They are worried that the strong criticism and calls for demonstrations against the Trump plan would cause instability in the region. The president has assured them that he does not support violent protest or terrorism as a way of protesting the Trump plan.” Palestinians in Ramallah [RUH-MAH-LAH] said that some Arab heads of state are apparently worried that widespread protests against the US and Israel on the streets of Arab capitals would see demonstrators also turn against their presidents and monarchs. Abbas’s visit to New York is aimed at rallying worldwide support for Palestinian opposition to the Trump plan, known as “Peace to Prosperity.”

Our topic for today is titled “A Variety of Views, Part 4” from Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson’s book “The Essential Guide to Bible Prophecy.”

Pre-millennialists believe that the rapture, the Tribulation, and the glorious appearance of Christ will all occur before the beginning of the Millennium. During the Millennium, Satan will be bound for 1000 years, and a theocratic kingdom of peace will ensue with Jesus as its King. The righteous will have been raised from the dead prior to the Millennium and will participate in its blessings.

Toward the end of the third century, an allegorical approach to Scripture began to dominate theological thought. Philosophy replaced the study of Scripture, and pre-millennialism fell into disrepute. Not until after the Reformation was there a revival of pre-millennial thought. Later, in the nineteenth century, Bible institutes and Christian schools across America began to emphasize a literal interpretation of the Bible, and with it, a return to pre-millennialism. Today, despite continued attacks, pre-millennialism is the dominant millennial view.

This section is titled, “Idolatry to be Destroyed at Christ’s Coming” (Part 2). J.C. Ryle writes:

Let me, then, first of all set before you the definition of idolatry. Let me show you what it is.

It is of the utmost importance that you should understand this. Unless I make this clear, I can do nothing with the text. Vagueness and indistinctness prevail upon this point, as upon almost every other in religion. The Christian that would not be continually running aground in his spiritual voyage, must have his channel well buoyed, his mind well stored with clear definitions.

I say then, that “idolatry is a worship, in which the honour due to God in Trinity, and to Him only, is given to some of His creatures, or some invention of His creatures.” It may vary exceedingly. It may assume exceedingly different forms, according to the ignorance or the knowledge–the civilization or the barbarism, of those who offer it. It may be grossly absurd and ludicrous, or it may closely border on truth, and admit of being most speciously defended. But whether in the adoration of the idol of Juggernaut, or in the adoration of the host in St. Peter’s at Rome, the idolatrous principle is in reality the same. In either case the honour due to God is turned aside from Him, and bestowed on that which is not God. And whenever this is done, whether in heathen temples or in professedly Christian Churches, there is an act of idolatry.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.
